If you’re an iPhone user, download the Home Depot app first.

Second, open the app, then, tap on the hamburger menu.

Next, find the camera function. Then, you can now take a picture of a tool or other home items that you want.

Afterward, it will automatically deliver results for related items within the retailer’s inventory.

“… about our business, it is uniquely beneficial for our customers … many times have customers come in looking for the part they are not quite sure what it is called,” said Stephen Holmes, director of corporate communications at The Home Depot.

We don’t just [produce] tech for the sake of coming up with new and cool things for people to use; we really want to make the shopping experience [simpler] for our customers,” he added.

Once customers locate the item they are looking for using the visual search, they can buy it online or pick it up in the store.

Other Companies’ Visual Search Hopes

In July of 2014, Target responded to Amazon’s image recognition app with its own offering. Also, aspiring to take back control of showrooming activity while providing a better shopping experience.

Moreover, Macy’s, a US retailer, became the first of its own (as a US retailer) to utilize visual search technology from Cortexica.
