The Product Discovery Phase: In Seven

Defining the product discovery phase must help you define the steps you’d go through. These are classified into seven phases. These are especially crucial. Thus, carefully following these affects the success of your process.

Phase One: The Discovery

This is the phase where the Production Team takes the customers’ reviews. It is vital to take their feedback and concerns into consideration. In addition, putting the competing products in the scene also helps. Having the customer’s feedback on competing products shall help you with the comparison.

Know what are the product features that customers find valuable. What features do they wish to enhance or improve? Keep in mind the main goal. That is to acquire, verify, and carry out customer feedback.

Phase Two: Define

The next phase is to define the MVP. MVP stands for Minimum Viable Product. It is important not to waste valuable resources. Furthermore, gain a solid understanding of the problems to solve. Also, of its needed features to address.

However, defining the MVP is not a plain sailing process. For the experienced product managers, they might have their instincts on hand. But, things go otherwise for neophytes.

Thus, having a system greatly helps.

Phase Three: Designing

This is the stage where the application of plans take place. After gaining solutions, it’s time for implementation. It is time to execute the design.

The cooperation of various personnel is vital. The Project Manager now works with the designer. The designer is to create mockups or replicas. Next, these replicas will then be presented to customers. Customers in turn will provide feedback. Feedback should include what works for them, and what does not.

These processes repeat again and again. Until the solutions are clearly defined. And key problems are then addressed.

Phase Four: To Implement

In this stage, there’s more need for cooperation between professionals. The product designer, engineers, and the manager all work together.

After the product design, the product is handed over to the engineer for review. The engineer makes sure of the product’s looks and functionality.

The Product Manager, on the other hand, makes sure to prioritize product features. Also, product specs and compliance.

Phase Five: Marketing

Another vital part of the team is the Marketing Manager. They are responsible for their names, ‘marketing’.

Today, more marketing features have come into play. There are blogs, video-blogs, advertisements, and other promotional materials.

However, a truthful and direct product campaign works better.

Phase Six: Training

We are nearing the end of phases. Training is when product instructions and guides are informed to users. But, it is not limited to users. Training should also be provided for internal.

Thus, effective training should have good documentation.

Phase Seven: Product Launch

Finally, we’re at the ‘party’ stage. But, not yet. First, send the product to the market. Let the potential users be aware of the product launch. Also, let the media know to advertise more.

However, avoid being complacent just because you’re ending the product discovery phase. Having a conference with the team to discuss current statistics should do you good too.

Always remember, product discovery is a continuous ‘discovery’.
